It was a very good year 2023 was busy and eventful for our team, as we’re sure it was for you and your family. And 2024 has already kicked off with exciting events and blessings. From a business standpoint, the Gordon team, and our clients, had a great year. Of course, there were a number of ups and downs as markets responded to news (as they always do), but overall, our clients’ portfolios did what they were supposed to do — remain aligned with their strategic long-term financial plan. As Lee always says “What’s most important is staying on the train.” Staying true to your plan and staying invested accordingly makes all the difference. That’s why we spend so much time creating custom, individualized plans together and maintain a high conviction in those plans, which of course sometimes change based on personal, sometimes unforeseen, circumstances. We have enjoyed so much hearing about what’s happening with your families as we connect throughout the year, so we wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from our team as well. Mazel Tov! Lee Gordon (aka “Papa Leo”) became the proud grandfather of a beautiful baby boy on January 2 in Boulder, Colorado. Baby and mom are doing great, and now Lee gets to take some of his own medicine by starting to set up a college fund! One of the techniques that he always recommends in addition to funding a 529 Plan is to gift money on holidays and special occasions. Starting early is key, since those first 8-10 years can make all the difference in the ultimate size of the college fund. Off to school Stephanie is finding it hard to believe that her oldest daughter is already in High School this year! Time goes so fast. Her other daughter is enjoying middle school. Both girls are dancers and Stephanie is currently being a “dance mom” for competitions and shows on the weekends. Stephanie has also been periodically sharing her insights on WGN radio when the “Your Money Matters” host needs an expert to talk about financial issues. You can listen to her here.   Keep on rowin’ As part of Jennifer's ongoing commitment to Recovery on Water, she participated in the 2023 US Rowing Masters National Championships regatta in Indianapolis, IN. "We didn't win, but we had a blast," laughs Jennifer. Milestones matter Congratulations to Shauna, who is starting her 20th year at Mesirow! This year, she took her family to Disney and they are looking forward to going on their first international trip to Mexico on spring break and continuing their fun at Ravinia through the summer.
